Cubic Boron Nitride (CBN) is beyond diamond the hardest material used as a cutting material. This makes it suitable for milling high hardened steel with a longer tool lifetime in comparison to solid carbide end mills. The TOWA Corporation of Japan has initially developed the CBN end mills for accurate and efficient high-frequency milling of hardened steel for their own production facilities, however TOWA Europe now introduces the CBN end mills for the European market.
Main outline for the development was to increase the tool lifetime and improve surface quality (ra) in comparison with solid carbide end mills. In addition, you can increase your spindle speed and feed to reduce total production time. Due to the longer tool lifetime and improved surface quality the TOWA CBN end mills are suitable for both manned and unmanned (high-frequency) milling of high hardened steel to produce for example molds and dies.
The different end mills types are available with diameters vary from 0.1mm up to 6mm, all with a diameter accuracy of 0 ~-3 µm and a radius accuracy of ± 2 µm. Due to our development and production facility we can develop and produce customized end mills depending on your specific requirements.
